Exhibition setup
The exhibition “Guercino in his studio“, curated by Barbara Ghelfi and Raffaella Morselli in collaboration with the museum staff, explores the relationship of the famous artist with his most trusted collaborators. The aim is to clarify the professional, artistic and entrepreneurial dynamics that contributed to the success of Guercino's studio.
Guercino’s precocious talent, combined with an extraordinary pictorial technique, attracted the attention of his contemporaries. The numerous graphic sketches made by the artist, aimed at studying figures and compositions, testify to the constant creative commitment that characterized each phase of the genesis of a work, right from the initial project. The first section of the exhibition illustrates Guercino’s modus operandi, highlighting his creative process, from the drafting of the drawings to the conclusion of the work. Among the works on display, some of his most important altarpieces stand out, already the subject of technical-diagnostic studies, such as the “Dressing of San Guglielmo“. The new findings from recent research are presented with the support of a digital and interactive desk, which allows visual comparisons with a wide range of iconographic and technical-scientific material.
The exhibition layout follows the system of learning about the works already used in the Renaissance rooms, characterized by iron guides and horizontally movable and height-adjustable rods, to ensure maximum exhibition flexibility. The new banner-shaped room panels and the caption devices, also in iron, were created in compliance with museum accessibility standards, with particular attention to the readability and comprehension of the texts in Italian and English. The marked contrast between the light text and the dark background, together with the increase in font size, facilitates use by all visitors, including children, adults and people in wheelchairs. The works, supports and devices, made by the company Mimec, have been positioned at a height accessible to all. The graphics of the installation are part of a broader review of the coordinated image of the Pinacoteca Nazionale, curated by the studio The HarvestThe introductory panel to the exhibition was curated by Pablo Communication studio.
