Inclusive Heritage: Guided tour of the exhibition "Invisible Voices and Places"

On March 10, 2026, at 5:00 PM, a guided tour of the exhibition "Inclusive Heritage: Invisible Voices and Places" will be held at the SUPSI Campus in Mendrisio, focusing on the themes of inclusion and accessibility in contemporary cultural heritage.

The exhibition, developed by students at the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) and Zurich (ETH Zurich) as part of the initiative "A Future for Whose Past?", offers an alternative reading of Swiss heritage through twelve case studies across the country. The project critically investigates the processes through which heritage is selected, narrated, and transmitted, questioning the relationship between collective memory, social plurality, and cultural representation.

Through photographs, testimonies, and field research, the exhibition restores visibility to often marginalized places, practices, and stories, sparking a reflection on heritage as a dynamic and shared construct. The initiative is part of the broader international debate on accessible cultural heritage and the role of conservation projects in making places truly accessible and interpretable by diverse audiences.

The guided tour will be led by Giacinta Jean (SUPSI), Sergio Bettini and Anna Bernardi (Institute of History and Theory of Art and Architecture, Academy of Architecture – USI), together with Rune Frandsen (ETH Zurich).

The initiative “A Future for Whose Past?” is promoted by the Chair of Built Heritage and Monument Conservation at ETH Zurich, in collaboration with ICOMOS Suisse and the Heritage, Anthology and Technologies (HAT) research group at EPFL, with the support of the Federal Office of Culture.
